Saturday, October 16th, 2021 - Charles Collectibles and Books LLC participated in The 13th Annual Social Justice Conference in Detroit, Michigan's Historic Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. Detroit area residents gathered from ages 10 and up during a two day period. Discussions, idea's and solutions were sought in various breakout sessions about the perceptions of being African American in the United States and World.
People also gathered to here native Detroiter and Attorney General for the State of Minnesota Keith Ellison. Ellison talked about social injustice across the country and his role in insuring a fair and unbiased trial of Derek Chavin. Chain is the former Minnesota Police Office who murdered George Floyd sparking a resurgence in the Black Lives Matter movement for racial justice and equality.
Charles Collectibles and Books was able to provide a wide range of books on social justice topics to conference attendees. Customers now have a local outlet to find books and other resources to address and reflect their need for diverse books of color and perspective at ccandbooks.com, a Detroit based online bookstore.
Mary J. Grant the conference organizer and session facilitator shared her thoughts that the conference is needed to show people of all ages the struggle continues. Mrs. Grant is also the author of Moving North, a book written for young audiences. Her book examines racism a family encounters in its move from the South to the North for a better life and greater opportunities to succeed. Note, Mary J.
