This September we are featuring award winning children’s and young adult book author Lesa Cline-Ransome. Lesa has written about historical pioneers who have blazed trails in African American History and Women’s History. Her books include spotlights of Major Taylor, Harriet Tubman, Venus and Serena Williams, Satchel Paige and spotlights 21 female athletes who changed sports. With the aide of her husband and illustrator James Ransome, Lesa has taught in the New York City School District and has concentrated on preserving African American history and culture.
As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title Nine which gave women the right to obtain educational scholarships through sports in college, we review Lesa’s book 21 Female Athletes Who Changed Sports. Featuring some of greatest athletes of all time despite gender highlights the groundbreaking achievements of these pioneering athletes. If you’re looking for a book to encourage and celebrate a young athlete then this is the book for them. Charles Collectibles and Books rates 21 Female Athletes Who Changed Sports 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Lesa’s second book that we are featuring is Game Changers, the Venus and Serena Williams Story. As we come to the end of an
era where these two African American women have dominated Women’s Tennis for over twenty years, we celebrate these remarkable women who have changed lives on and off the court. Serving as world ambassadors in a sport where few African American’s dared to explore, these two teen ladies from the inner city of Los Angeles, California changed everyone’s perception of who should be seen and who should play tennis. At a time when women started to dominate in mainstream sports, the Williams sister’s changed people’s perceptions by being the face of diversity and inclusion via television and social media platforms. Game Changers is truly a remarkable book and Charles Collectibles and Books rates Game Changers 5 out of 5 stars and a must read for to enjoy.
